Attended by more than 400 community leaders, the event celebrated 50 years of IBM in Boca with the site serving as birth place of the IBM Personal Computer, which led to the transformation of how we conduct business, educate, provide healthcare, communicate, and socialize. "There would be no Internet, had there been no PCs to connect," said Martinez. A granite plaque will be strategically mounted at the entrance to the former IBM site, now known as the Boca Raton Innovation Campus. Martinez devoted 32-years to service with IBM. His personal leadership in many of the ground-breaking initiatives promoted him to the ranks of IBM Vice President and Senior State Executive. Upon his retirement from IBM, the Mayor of Boca Raton proclaimed June 22, 2007 "Pete Martinez Day."
