Strategic Partnerships

Picture
SIVOTEC Analytics works closely with Taghi M. Khoshgoftaar, Ph.D. and its strategic partner Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in Boca Raton, Florida. Dr. Khoshgoftaar is the Motorola Endowed Chair and Professor, Director of National Science Foundation Big Data Training and Research Lab, and Director of the Data Mining and Machine Learning Lab in the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at FAU – one of the fastest growing departments in one of the fastest growing Universities in the United States.

SIVOTEC and the FAU team, under the direction of Dr. Khoshgoftaar, have developed a work flow for industry and academic/research partners to effectively content/context manage, process, and analyze data, extract useful information, and forge it into useful knowledge – that is, Actionable Intelligence. Throughout this process, we work closely with our clients to ensure we can discover useful trends and relationships, as well as develop valid predictive models that are soundly evidence-based, practical, and pertinent to their research questions and business goals. Importantly, this is an iterative process where we take advantage of ongoing engagement and recognition that goals and research questions may evolve as more data become available and discovery unfolds.

The FAU Advanced Computing Facilities provide capacity for storage and advanced analysis of data and development of predictive models, using the FAU-National Science Foundation High Performance Cluster (HPC) KoKo. This computing cluster provides the brawn necessary to handle any data analytics or machine learning problem, including Big Data problems. It is comprised of over 80 nodes, each with 20 Intel Xeon cores and 128GB of Ram. Additionally, some nodes are equipped with NVIDA Tesla GPUs and/or Intel Xeon Phi Cores to further augment processing power. Data storage has recently been upgraded to use Lustre, a parallel distributed file system.

The SIVOTEC-FAU collaborative partnership brings together extraordinary, creative, cross-disciplinary problem-solving capacity. We can uniquely develop and apply customized algorithms and tools, while utilizing the necessary content and multiple-domain expertise and resources to meet complex data challenges and provide state-of-the-art solutions.

Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, Florida and SIVOTEC/Game Changer Tec have established an innovative partnership to lead an array of cutting-edge research in genomics and neuroscience specific to health and sport, using new biomarkers and technologies, advanced imaging and analytics, and a big-data/computational biology approach driven by sophisticated data mining principles and artificial intelligence. Our collaboration provides the combined resources and expertise to reveal the signatures that define (and are often barriers to) optimum health and sustainable athletic development and performance.

Working closely with Tomás R. Guilarte, Ph.D., Dean, Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work, Professor in the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health, Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience & Imaging, and a member of the Biomolecular Sciences Institute at FIU, the FIU-SIVOTEC/Game Changer Tec partnership is poised to find unique solutions that can help lead, for example, a paradigm shift in understanding and managing risk and longitudinal changes in brain health consequent to repeated head impact exposure in sport, as well as in other areas of clinical and applied neuroscience research. This will empower greater opportunities for discovery and innovation emanating from South Florida and extending globally.

SIVOTEC Analytics also has a partnership with the Advanced Genomics Laboratory at Florida International University to support the research and clinical services for the SIVOTEC integrated platforms related to genomics and advanced analytics. Kevin C. McElfresh, Ph.D., Director of Advanced Genomics for SIVOTEC Analytics, provides leadership and oversight specific to optimizing management of the laboratory, strategic alignments, and keeping SIVOTEC at the forefront of innovative genomic research and novel applied solutions.

The age of biotechnology has been focused on the innovative development of the tools and skills needed to tackle the fundamental questions related to how the genome and related systems control the fundamental processes that shape our being and signatures of health and athletic performance. With those tools in hand, SIVOTEC works closely with the FIU Advanced Genomics Laboratory and collaborators to drive an innovative discovery process that focuses  advanced analytics on the patterns and pace of genome function.

The University of Miami
Center for Computational Science (UM CCS)

The University of Miami Center for Computational Science (UM CCS) and SIVOTEC Analytics have partnered to create a collaborative platform that concentrates on initiatives aimed to accelerate the adoption and implementation of exponential technologies and services through big data research and analytics. SIVOTEC works closely with Nick Tsinoremas, Ph.D., Founding Director of UM CCS and an international leader in computational genomics and bioinformatics. The collaboration focuses in the areas of health, sports medicine, human performance, human resource and data management, optimization of operations, and other areas of organizational development that can benefit from data-driven decision making.

UM CCS establishes nationally and internationally recognized research programs, focusing on those of an interdisciplinary nature, to solve the complex technological problems of modern society. UM CCS provides the framework for promoting collaborative and multidisciplinary activities across the University of Miami and beyond and strives for excellence in research, teaching, and service, covering the fundamental, as well as applied aspects of computational science.
The mission of UM CCS is "to achieve national prominence by providing outstanding education and research opportunities to faculty, students, staff and partners."

The University is comprised of 11 schools and colleges serving undergraduate and graduate students in more than 180 majors and programs. UM is a major research university engaged in significant research and sponsored program expenditures annually. In 2015, U.S. News & World Report ranked UM among the top 51 universities in the country in its "Best Colleges" listings. U.S. News also cited several of UM's programs in "America's Best Graduate Schools.”

The SIVOTEC-UM CCS partnership is a powerful alliance that further serves as a bridge to integrate, interface and collaborate with industries and other stakeholders throughout the United States and abroad, creating a true multi-disciplinary environment that innovatively solves scientific and business problems through the application of advanced analytics. SIVOTEC and UM CCS will also promote education, training, and outreach by establishing new strategic alliances with industry and academic partners, thereby expanding the presence and impact of the University of Miami and SIVOTEC.
